The past few years have shown how much schools have in the political
influence of our current events. As teachers and administrators, we have an obligation to remain neutral and keep opinions separate from our teachings. But we also have to be able to emphasize with students when an event like the killing of George Floyd happens. Or when Asian civilians are being targeted as the reason for COVID-19. Making sure that systemic racism stays out of the schools and a discussion of events replaces that hate. In addition, schools have a responsibility to the state and the federal mandates that can sometimes have political consequences. I hope to continue to listen, be mindful and emphasize when I am an administrator all while making sure I do not cross a political line. |
